The Cactus! design is a fine example of the Alessi families’ ability to produce complicated fretwork designs at a very reasonable price. The Cactus! line by Marta Sansoni has proven to be a very popular item since it’s introduction in 2002 and is available in several different forms such as trays, baskets and objects for the kitchen.
A fortunate, and rare, example of a new product which is a blend of two classic household products: the Fruit Bowl/Colander earned its creator the 1995 Award of the Conseil National des Arts Culinaires de Paris as jeune créateur de l’année (Castiglioni was aged 77 at the time)
“La Stanza dello Scirocco” fruit basket in black. It is a room without windows in which you can do nothing but ponder the wind that is undoing all sublunary things outside. The upshot is a collection of geometrically irregular items made up of small splinters of various sizes, interlaced in an unstable balance. And so I came up with the idea that “La Stanza dello Scirocco” could be recounted through the story of drawings done by hand and through images of shadows, and that we could then ask everyone to exert themselves ever so slightly and make a small input with their own imaginations.
