The sextant was an essential navigation tool for early sailors, in the days before radargps. By taking a sighting on the stars or sun,also using a compass, a skilled navigator could tell fairly accurately where they were. While this is a working model can be used for demonstration purposes, it is not recommended for actual navigation.
